YOU'RE SUSPENDED..FOR LIFE!
This one needs to be filed under WTF did i just watch???
I don't know if lack of continuity or explanation, is some new ,cool way in filmmaking these days, or I did I just not get the memo? But "Suspension" is seriously lacking in both.
"Suspension" ( a.k.a " Dead of Night) is a horror /slasher film on ADHD. The movie bounces around so much, it's really hard to tell what is actually going on.
The plot is twisted but not in the way you might think, it's just messed up and really makes no sense.
Years ago, a father brutally murdered his son and eight other people. Now x amount of years later, he is back to finish what he started.
The premise reminds you of a really morbid version of the popular childhood book and animated TV series "Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings" meets the movie " Sin City".
A good deal of the film is in black and white but with just a splotch or two of vivid color, hence looking like "Sin City".
From what I could gather, the surviving daughter is traumatized by the horrific childhood memories of her father. She draws these bloody and murderous comics of people who either bullied her or looked at her the wrong way, and then her drawings start to come true. You'll find yourself believing that she is possibly a psychic, until you figure out what is more likely, the extremely predictable plot twist.
"Borrowing" the complete serial killer ensemble from "The Hills Run Red", daddy is home to tie up loose ends.
It is a clever, but not very original idea. If you can get past the appallingly bad acting and wade through all the inconsistencies, then it might prove to be a somewhat enjoyable movie.
A few questions, if "daddy" breaks through the locked and chained front door more than once, basically ripping it off it's hinges, then how is the door still intact, when he breaks through it again? Why would "daddy" need to trap them in the basement, when he knows that the window to the outside is already wide open, since they crawled through it before?
Who actually died, other than the obvious, and where is dear old dad?
Also, why did the deputy decide to go deep sea gut diving in poor old Mr. Robinson? WTF was that about? His character's disturbing actions had literally NO explanation???
Like a lot of horror films in this particular genre, "Suspension" is a big ole can of extra strength cheese whiz.
At the end, you will feel like there is just too many loose ends, inconsistencies and unexplained events, to have truly enjoyed the film.
I guess if you think about it a bit, there is an a ha moment, that is reminiscent of "The Sixth Sense". Though, I can't be sure without watching it again, if the people who made this movie were even that clever. Perhaps it is just wishful thinking on my part?
I get what extremely vague explanation they give you at the end, but it is so over the top and unbelievable, that you have to wonder if the people who made this movie were on some pretty powerful drugs?
I think they should strongly consider renaming "Suspension" to "Expelled"!
