The much awaited and anticipated project from two new wave giants Nick Rhodes ( Duran Duran) and Warren Cuccurullo ( Missing Persons) TV Mania is here.. It has been reported that Bored With Prozac and The Internet was originally ready for release in 1996, but the DAT was lost until 2012. Too bad they found it...
Now before you think I'm anti-Duran Duran, you would be wrong. I am a HUGE fan and longtime supporter of Duran Duran and it's many styles and faces.

WARNING: if you were expecting to hear something along the lines of successful former side projects like Arcadia or Power Station, you will be sorely disappointed. TV Mania is the exact opposite that you would expect from such huge players. Believe it or not, this is far more futile and ineffective than Pete Burns (Dead or Alive) and the Pet Shop Boys- Jack & Jill Party, which is possibly the worst record Pete or Pet Shop Boys ever made in their respective histories. How do you take such incredible musicians like Nick Rhodes and Warren Cuccurullo and get such a huge load of noisy crap like this? Even the aforementioned Dead or Alive/Pet Shop Boys marriage was listenable at best. Can you imagine how incredible these two musical forces could have been? Now we may never know. If no one ever told you, I can almost guarantee that no true Duran Duran fan would even have a clue who this even was, more less get excited about it. I think the only Duran Duran fans that will truly support this, are the ones who feel an obligation to love anything any Duran might churn out, no matter how nauseating it might be.

TV Mania Bored With Prozac and The Internet makes you wonder just how bored they would have to have been or how much Prozac or other mind altering drugs it would take to make something this drab and dreary. What a complete and utter, bitterly crushing disappointment, not to mention a major waste of perfectly good talent. Damn, I was so excited. I was thinking this would have been the perfect marriage. I really thought that I would have heard some more of the magic that Warren Cuccurullo added to the incredible Duran Duran album The Wedding Album, but no, not even close.

Now let's just pretend for a moment that I was just reviewing an album by a unknown band that I knew nothing about. Here is what I would say. Bored With Prozac and The Internet is an avant-garde, electronica, mind trip of meaningless random samples,Enigma-esque beats, lush atmospheres, sparse femme vocals. It is most definitely an experimental, ambient, new age record. There is nothing fresh, new or groundbreaking here. I think it will be very successful with the audience of the popular new age radio show Hearts of Space.
If you are having a really cool yuppie party and just want to look cool, this will be the CD you will want to put on. Your guests will be in awe of your great taste in trendy experimental music. Just be sure not to tell them who it really is or they might have to regurgitate that perfect dinner you just served them. If I need more disposable music to chill out to or to sleep to, TV Mania will be perfect. Banal and mundane.
